Maryland
Association of
Nonpublic Special Education Facilities
(MANSEF) Conference
The
18th Annual MANSEF Conference will be held on
Friday, October 26th from 8:00 am to
3:00 pm at the Baltimore Convention Center.
The conference will feature workshops on a variety of subjects,
including the following:
* Teaching students to make inferences in their
reading
* Correcting directionality and spatial orientation
problems in handwriting
* Neuropsychological assessments for
students with developmental disabilities
* Understanding out-of-the-ordinary behaviors
* Preventative strategies for students with
challenging behaviors
* Literary development for older students
* Developing an intradisciplinary vocational
program for students with autism
* A multidisciplinary training program
for teaching students with autism
* The Maryland Transition Age Youth Grant
* Utilizing Functional Behavioral Analysis
to develop individualized behavior protocols
* Tailoring the transition planning to
fit the disability

Workshop
on
Behavioral Interventions in the Home
STEP
Seminars, Inc.,
will hold a workshop entitled "Behavioral interventions
in the home: Visual and practical approaches for children
with PDD/Autism" on Saturday, October 27th,
from 1:00
- 6:00 pm at the McLean Bible Church in Vienna,
Virginia. The workshop will be led by Robin Allen, Ph.D.,
a Behavioral Specialist with over 20 years of experience
in providing consultations and support services to individuals,
organizations, schools, and families.
The workshop is designed to
provide a variety of practical and visual behavioral approaches
to increase adaptive behaviors and decrease maladaptive
behaviors. The workshop is best suited for caregivers
of verbal and nonverbal children ages 3 to 9 years old.
The

Family NETWorks
Announcements
The
Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council has received
a $100,000 continuation grant for their Maryland
Family NETWorks Project, the on-line, family-to-family connection
for Maryland families that include a member with a disability.
As
a result of this grant, Maryland Family NETWorks is able
to initiate several new activities, including an e-mail
group service. It is open, unmoderated, and easy-to-use.
Through this e-mail group service, you will be able to share
resources, timely information, action alerts, and guidance
on important local, state, and federal disability-related
issues. You will also be able to discover new resources
and connect with others around the state. To

As a result of this grant, Maryland Family NETWorks is also
seeking a New Project Specialist. In this position,
you will be working to improve and increase services available
in Maryland to families with a member who has a developmental
