Autism Awareness Rally
in Washington, D.C.


On Sunday, April 21st, from noon to 5:00 pm, the Third National Autism Awareness Rally will be held on the Mall in Washington, D.C., between 3rd & 4th Streets.  This event, called "The Power of One! I.D.E.A.", is free and open to the public.

Upcoming Special Olympics activities


Special Olympics Anne Arundel County is offering a variety of programs for spring.  All children and adults with developmental disabilities, ages 8 and older, are eligible to participate.

  • Bocce ball practices will be held at Marley Glen Special School (200 Scott Avenue) on Mondays from 6 - 7 pm, starting on March 25th and continuing through May.

  • Softball practices will be held at Marley Middle School (7730 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd) on Mondays from 6 - 7:30 pm, starting on April 8th and continuing through May 20th.

  • Volleyball practices will be held at Marley Middle School (7730 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd) on Tuesdays from 6 - 7 pm, starting on April 23rd and continuing through May.

Upcoming presentation by Stephen Shore

On Friday, April 26th, at 6:30 pm, the Hannah More School is hosting an evening with Stephen Shore, author of "Beyond the Wall: Personal Experiences with Autism and Asperger Syndrome". Mr. Shore will discuss his struggles and peaks as a child and adult with Asperger Syndrome.

Diagnosed with "atypical development with strong autistic tendencies" and nonverbal until age four, Stephen Shore was viewed as "too sick" to be treated on an outpatient basis.  He is now completing his doctoral degree in special education at Boston University, with a focus on helping people on the autism spectrum develop their capacities to the fullest extent possible.

The Hannah More School is located at 12039 Reisterstown Road, Reisterstown. The fee for this presentation is $20 per person. In addition, copies of Stephen Shore's book will be available for $20 each (cash or check only).
